An accomplished producer/mixer/musician, John Alec is one of the key figures behind the success of Junoon. He first went to Pakistan in 1997 to produce Junoon’s third album Azadi, which became an international multi-platinum hit. His expertise as an engineer and mixer created the sound that propelled Junoon to international acclaim. Assimilating the melodies and rhythms of South Asia into his musical vocabulary, John has contributed on Junoon recordings playing sitar, harmonium, piano, and bass. He has been performing with the band since the departure of their bass player in 2004.
John grew up in a musical household and studied music and music production at Purchase Conservatory. He honed his performance skills playing guitar with various bands in New York City clubs. John played with the Australian band Heaven, and toured internationally with Edgar Winter and Johnny Winter. While working on recordings with Edgar Winter John discovered his passion for production. He now records primarily in a state-of-the-art studio in his home. John continues to work with many artists as a freelance engineer/producer and teaches music at The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry NY. He is a voting member of NARAS(The Grammys) and a Writer/Publisher with ASCAP.
